Walnut Wood Flooring

Walnut, often American black walnut, is a premium hardwood with a rich chocolate tone and fine, straight grain. It is softer than oak, about 1010 on the Janka scale, so it shows dents more easily. Color deepens with age and light exposure. Engineered walnut is preferred in Los Angeles for stability through temperature and humidity swings.

Choose narrow to wide planks and grades from select to character. Matte finishes keep glare low and highlight grain. Prefinished options speed installs and simplify care. Many engineered lines offer 2 to 6 mm wear layers. Use proper subfloor prep, moisture testing, and acclimation for tight seams. Protect high-traffic areas with rugs and felt pads. Walnut pairs well with light walls and modern trim for contrast.
